Welcome

The Avian Influenza Toolkit provides a portal to a wide array of resources to assist with efforts against H5N1 avian influenza and other emerging infectious diseases.

To date significant global effort has been made against the threat of H5N1 avian influenza and a potential human influenza pandemic. The AI Toolkit aims to collate the product of this substantial global activity into a comprehensive and easily accessible resource that may be utilized by all who need it.  In this Toolkit you will find management guidelines, information resources, case studies and examples of practical tools used by countries around the world, which are being shared in the hope that they may assist others to implement strengthened animal disease preparedness and response measures.

We would like to acknowledge the integral role of the Project Steering Group comprising representatives from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and the United Nations System Influenza Coordinator (UNSIC).  The Steering Group helped shape the Toolkit to meet the needs of member economies through the provision of overarching guidance and direction to the Toolkit’s development, and valuable materials for inclusion in the site.  The assistance and contributions of APEC member economies, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF), have been critical to the Toolkit’s development, and have helped to ensure that the Toolkit is a valuable and relevant resource for all countries dealing with the threat or impacts of emergency animal disease.

The Toolkit will continue to evolve with country experiences, policy directions and technical advances.  As such, countries, international organizations and others are invited to actively contribute to the Toolkit, and consider using the site for the promotion and dissemination of new materials relating to avian influenza or other emerging infectious diseases.  We encourage you to make use of the site and email us with any suggestions on future case studies, activities being undertaken and materials for inclusion.
